Pancit Canton Mania
One of the more obvious influences the Chinese community had on Philippine cuisine is the very popular pancit. From the Hokkien word pian + e + sit meaning "something that is easily cooked", the name pertains to but one thing today -- noodles.
However, pancit has ceased to be an ordinary noodle dish. Since its first appearance on the Filipino dining table, pancit has been transformed into a cultural reflection of each distinct region.
Where there's an abundance of seafood, there's Pancit Malabon. Where the sea is far and vegetables are bountiful, there's Pancit Habhab. Indeed, aside from becoming a Filipino staple dish, pancit has evolved to be one of the many ways of expressing Filipino ingenuity.
And because pancit is believed to symbolize long life and prosperity, it remains to be ever-present in Filipino celebrations like birthdays, fiestas and other holidays.
Despite the innumerable takes on the pancit however, one variation stands out from the rest – the pancit canton. Unlike other pancit dishes, pancit canton is quick and easy to prepare yet delectably satisfying, making it perfect for lunch, merienda and just about any meal of the day.
Made with a savory mix of noodles, vegetables and meat garnishings, the pancit canton is always a big hit. And after being part of the Philippine menu for so many decades, this sumptuous noodle dish has truly become ingrained in the Filipino cooking tradition.
It has become such a part of our culture that the popular dish has slowly evolved into an everyday commodity. In fact, the pancit canton has evolved from being a main dish into an all-time meal or snack. Thanks to instant pancit canton brands like Payless Pancit Canton, Filipinos everywhere can enjoy their favorite noodle dish any time of the day.

I lived in northern Luzon 9 differant times over a 8 year period.
While I lived there I learned all the cultures and customs of
of the Philippines. As well as cooking.
I have indroduced many a "round eye" (as Am I) to the delight
of Philippine cooking. Thank you for your wonderful website.
I always was told the Pancit Canton was/is translates in to "Cantones
Spaghetti/Noodles" As Spaghetti was a word given to the noodle by the Italians when they were first brought back these noddles from China by early europian explorers. Therefore I'll assume "Pancit" really means noodles. Cantones were the first people to indroduce the original dish to the Philippines, which later was changed or modified for local taste and available ingredients to become that wonderful dish now know as "Pancit Canton".. And Know You Know The Rest of the Story.....

I love pancit canton! And for some strange reason I love instant pancit canton even more than the traditional type that comes in a bilao. I grew up with Lucky Me and tried other brands, but nothing tastes as good. I love Lucky Me!

Hi Kimy, Card, and Mischka...
Looks like you share the same preference not only in your choice of pancit canton, but also in your internet service provider, because all "three" of you are using the same internet connection.

As in hindi lasang kalamansi? I used to eat [...] pancit canton pero mahal. Ito, MAS MASARAP na, MURA pa!

Thanks for making the lives of people convenient. Your product is good. But I hope you can also consider vegetarian version - without any meat products/spices like onions and garlic. This is good for health. Thanks.
