Gokongwei Group Supports Kapuso Foundation's Give-a-Gift

The Holiday Season came early at Robinsons Galleria's Dreamscape, as companies of the Gokongwei group treated child laborers to two days of gifts, games and goodies in support of Kapuso Foundation's Give-a-Gift: Alay sa Batang Pinoy project.

"These children work in places like pyrotechnic factories and fish ports," explained Department of Labor and Employment's Leilani Reynoso, Senior Labor and Employment officer and child labor coordinator of Region III.

"But, with the help of government departments like DOLE, DSWD, as well as Local Government Units and other private companies, their situation improved. International standards of the child labor law are being strictly followed. The children are no longer overburdened with work; their job doesn't interfere with their studies; and their working environment was made safer for them."

Reynoso added, "And now with the help of groups like JG Summit and GMA Kapuso Foundation, these children are given a sense of well-being."

"We want them to enjoy the Yuletide season even for just an afternoon," said JG Summit Holdings, Inc. president Lance Gokongwei. "Since they live in an adult world most of the year."

Attended by Lance Gokongwei and GMA Kapuso Foundation's Vice President, Mel Tiangco, the affair was full of kiddie enjoyment, as the children spent a fun-filled time with the management trainees of JG Summit Holdings, Inc. and the team from Kapuso Foundation.

The Children's Library, Gokongwei Brothers Foundation's multi-media learning center, conducted a story-telling session with the help of MiniStop mascots Minnie and Topper. Dreamscape and Cebu Pacific conducted lively games that the children enjoyed. Delicious treats from MiniStop and Hot Loops Donuts, with Refresh Flavored Drinks, were served.

The festivities were further enhanced by performances of Fanatext / GMA7 Artist Center talents like Pinoy Pop's Jonalyn Viray, Michael Garcia and MC. The Children even hopped on Dreamscape's rides with Starstruck artists Krizzy JareƱo and Cristine Reyes. Another special guest was adorable child star, Tolits.

The children went home with an armful of goodies from Digitel LEC, Sun Cellular, Summit Media, Robinsons Department Store, Handyman and Robinsons Supermarket.

"Children should play, have fun and behave like kids," said Mel Tiangco. "This is an essential part of their growth and development."

Gokongwei added, "This is just the beginning of our group's synergized efforts to mount more outreach programs, all geared towards the development of the youth."
