Payless gives dream day off to MMDA traffic aid
Five times a week, Marivil "Boots" Defuntorum battles with traffic, intolerant drivers and pollution, and the rigors of being a single mom. At 35, the diligent MMDA Traffic Aid has traversed the highway of hardship to raise her children. Her only wish is to be able to spend quality time with her family and see her two kids enjoy what the good life has to offer.
Payless, the country's favorite instant noodle, granted Boots' wish when she was singled out as the winner of a day off package in the recent episode of Qtv 11's public service show Day-Off.
For one whole day, Boots switched roles with celebrity host Carmina Villaroel to get that much-deserved break from her arduous job.
As Boots enjoyed her bonding moment with her kids – six-year old Neil Matthew and four-year old Daryl James – Carmina took to the streets and began her duty as an MMDA traffic aid armed with the signature pink MMDA flag. Just like Boots, Carmina prompted pedestrians to use the proper lanes when crossing the street to avoid accident and even apprehended a traffic violator.
Payless gave Boots another surprise just as her dream day off was about to end. It was another wish-come-true for Boots when she saw a sari-sari store package loaded with Payless Instant Mami, Payless Pancit Canton, Payless Busog-Sarap Bowl, and other URC products waiting for her.
Boots has been longing to put up for a sari-sari store for her mother, who is also staying with her, so they can have additional source of income. She could hardly believe her luck and was so thankful to Payless for giving her and her family an opportunity to start on something worthwhile.
The Day-Off episode was Payless' way of paying tribute to today’s modern heroes who exemplify diligence at work and value family ties. Payless hopes that by rewarding hardworking individuals like Boots, more and more Filipinos will be inspired to do their best in their respective fields.
Day-Off airs every Saturday on Qtv 11, hosted by Carmina Villaroel and Michael "Pekto" Nacua.
