			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><font face="Tahoma">Universal Robina Corporation (URC) Flour Division continues to actively support the baking industry via launch of beneficial flour products, providing free technical services and promotional activities relevant to the needs of our local bakeries and bakeshops. This was evident in the participation of URC Flour in the recent Bakery Fair 2007 held from March 8-10 at the World Trade Center. </font></p>
<p><span id="more-100"></span><br />
<font face="Tahoma">To respond to the growing consumer interest on wellness and healthy food options, URC Flour conducted a seminar on “Trends in Healthy Baking”. This educated the bakers on how to develop nutritious baked products to be able to keep pace with market trends.</font><font face="Tahoma"><br />
</font><font face="Tahoma">Mr. Nicanor P. Ines, Quality Assurance Manager of URC Flour, explained the top health issues which convince consumers to switch to healthful alternatives that could help prevent heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity and undernourishment. Mr. Ines appealed to the bakers to help combat the widespread nutrition deficiency experienced by majority of the Filipinos. They have to use basic baking ingredients which are more beneficial and readily available in the market – bromate-free flour, sugar, oil and salt which are fortified with vitamin A, Iron and/or Iodine and conform to R.A. 8976 – law on food fortification enforced by DOH/BFAD.<font size="3"><br />
</font><font face="Tahoma">Mr. Ines also presented the new URC Whole Wheat Flour which has more fiber that helps reduce the risk of heart disease and prevent colon cancer and constipation. It is also a rich source of beneficial phytochemicals that promote proper function of the immune system, thus reducing the risk of cancer and also regulating the blood glucose of people with diabetes.</font><font face="Tahoma"> </font></font><font face="Tahoma"><font face="Tahoma"><font face="Tahoma">Another relevant and timely product launched by URC Flour is the Sweet Dough Premix. The sweet dough is basic to the preparation of ensaymada, soft rolls, pan de coco, pandesal, cinnamon rolls and many more all-time favorite breads. This premix was developed to provide bakery owners the following benefits – control of recipe standards, easier dough preparation (only the addition of yeast and water is required), hassle-free inventory management and more savings. This new flour product is highly advisable for franchise operations and start-up bakeries.<br />
</font><font face="Tahoma">URC Flour does not only look into what may be beneficial to consumers but is conscious in providing growth opportunities for the bakeries. Also during the Bakery Fair, URC Flour provided a learning session for the local bakers, encouraging them to continuously upgrade their skills. Pastry Chef Felinio Afable of Waterfront Davao was specially flown to Manila to do a step-by-step demo on “How to Make an Artistic Bread Display.” The demo hoped to give confidence to aspiring participants for the next round of El Panadero de Oro Bread Festival competitions. This activity which is annually staged by URC Flour, could pave the way for the bakery establishments and local bakers to be recognized and further patronized.</font><font face="Tahoma"><br />
</font><font face="Tahoma">URC Flour’s service to the baking industry does not stop at technical assistance. Local bakeries are also offered promotional programs. Clearly, URC Flour is a true partner of the industry.</font></font></font></p>

Thanks to the hardworking bakers from the local neighborhood bakeries, who start baking bread even in the wee hours of the morning, we are able to enjoy the all-time favorite hot pan de sal for breakfast.  </p>

<p>Apart from our staple pandesal, there are numerous baked products introduced in the market, which have captured the taste buds of Filipinos and have become sought after pasalubongs.</p>
<p>To give honor and recognition to the bakers, URC Flour Division has come up with <strong>El Panadero de Oro Bread Festival 2006.</strong>  This is a unique competition and event series, aimed to uplift the status of the local bakers by showcasing their creativity, talent and skills in the following categories: Artistic Bread Display Category and the Specialty Bread Category &#8211; bread products fused with the popular local bounty (e.g. durian, mango). </p>
<p>Aside from the competition, El Panadero de Oro also offers interactive activities such as dough art for the kids and cooking/baking demonstrations for the bakers and mothers alike.</p>
<p>There were three legs of this competition: the first leg of the event series was held last September 10, 2006 at the activity center of NCCC Mall in Davao; the second was held last October 22, 2006 at the activity center of Elizabeth Mall. Finally, the GMA leg was held last November 12, 2006 at the activity center of Robinsons Galleria.</p>
<p>With many known local bakeries from all legs, three bakeries emerged as the best of the best when it comes to Bread Display: <strong>NCCC Bread Factory for Davao, Absolutely Homemade for Cebu and Supreme 8 for GMA.</strong></p>

<p>Their respective wins have earned them tickets for the culminating bread display competition held during the URC Flour Thanksgiving Dinner last November 18, 2006 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila. All three bakeries showed their utmost creativity; at the end of the night, NCCC Bread Factory of Davao emerged as the hands – down winner of the competition with an intricate bread display piece entitled <strong>Philippine Development Through Unity in Diversity.</strong>  </p>
